STAC vs PAC - which code do I need?

Two codes, one decision: do you want to keep your number?

PAC - keep your number

A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) moves your existing number to a new network. Text PAC to 65075 from the SIM whose number you want to keep, give the code to the new network, and the number transfers - usually within three working days.

Use a PAC when you are joining VoicePro and want to bring your number, or leaving and want to take it with you.

STAC - leave without the number

A STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) closes your old service without transferring the number. Text STAC to 75075 from the old SIM, give the code to the new network, and the old contract ends as the new service starts - no awkward overlap, no phoning a cancellations department.

Use a STAC when you are happy to start fresh with a new number.

Either way

  • Both codes are free to request and valid for 30 days.
  • Both work by text, so you never have to sit through a retention call.
  • Requesting a code does not cancel anything by itself - nothing happens until you hand it to the gaining network.
